We've been known to occasionally play with our friends in whitewater rivers in our 16 foot raft, and more recently enjoy running our favorite rivers and flyfishing in a "Padillac Dos Amigos" two person self bailing kayak. We also enjoy fishing from a pair of Coleman single person inflatable kayaks, which are very stable and comfortable.
Fly Fishing is another favorite pass-time for both of us. At one time I guided professionally for several years, teaching fly fishing, and in the process teaching people who seemed to have to forgotten, how to "Play" again.
We also occasionally enjoy searching for gold, working with everything from a basic gold pan, to suction dredges, to metal detectors designed specificly for hunting gold. (Gold fever is similar to malaria; once afflicted, you are never completely cured, and will occasionally and unpredictably suffer "relapses", finding yourself once more in some of the more remote corners of the world in search of mother nature's treasures.)
I've always been fascinated in rocks, minerals, and crystals, and fascinated with their unusual properties. Everything in the universe resonates, and these resonances can be measured, sensed, and possibly utilized for many purposes. This field of inquiry extends into the fields of orgone and tachion energies and their manipulation and use. For an expanded look into the mineral kingdom, you can visit this page.
I first became interested in parapsychology and associated studies back in the 1960s, and began investigating and using various dowsing devices and techniques in about 1969. It's really simply a usable technique for shifting your attention to your own inner awareness, which can be useful. Some find it easy to do... others simply need more practice.
Every now and again, I find myself seeking out those solitary, quiet places- places only accessable on foot, with a pack and a good walking stick---- places where the music you hear is the sound of the wind whispering through the ancient bristlecone pines, --- or the cry of an eagle, --- or the distant howl of the coyote or wolf,--- or the song of the loon in the early morning mist, --- the babble of a small stream, or the roar of a waterfall, ---- or the musical bugle of the bull elk, --- the swish of cross country skiis over fresh snow, with the sleeping wintry world almost silent and glittering brightly,---- or the sound of the first frogs in spring, promising in the twilight that spring will surely return again.....
I enjoy hiking and backpacking, and hope that I can continue to occasionally get into those remote places that still hold so much of the "magic" of the wild places, the places that seldom see the track of man; for it's more than simply a love of those places..... it seems that there's that which keeps calling me back...... My parents may have named me better than they realized, for the name Bruce has it's roots in Scotland, meaning, "Man From The Thicket."
In this ever faster moving world, it can be all too easy to forget that our jobs, our occupations, are what we do, but not necessarily who we really are...
